Bobsled in Jamaica? O yes, even without the snow. Snow didn’t stop a team of determined Jamaicans from taking part in the Winter Olympics in 1988 in Alberta, Canada. This extremely daring and admirable team included Chris Stokes, Dudley Stokes, Winston Watt, and Wayne Thomas.
Further on, by 1994 in Lillehammer Norway, the Bobsled team shocked the world by finishing 14th overall, with the USA team finishing in 15th position.
In 2000, the Jamaican bobsleigh team won the gold medal at the World Push Championships in Monaco.
The Jamaican Bobsleigh Team failed to qualify for both the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. But, give them a break 🙂 we are already proud of them anyway.
Bobsled at Mystic Mountain
Mystic Mountain has to be one of Jamaica’s hidden jewels. Maybe you’ve heard the name before and you have an idea of what happens there, but you will never know until you experience it for yourself.
Rainforest Bobsled Jamaica at Mystic Mountain boasts over 100 acres of land stretching from the coast road entrance near Dunn’s River Falls to over 700 feet above sea level at the peak of Mystic Mountain. The park’s signature attraction, Rainforest Bobsled Jamaica, features a 1000m long gravity-drive through the rainforest on custom designed, high-tech sleds. Accessible via the Sky Lift Explorer, the Bobsled is a thrilling ride through dense tropical landscapes and coastal features on sleds that evoke memories of Jamaica’s 1988 Olympic team. It allows you to race through the forest on a thrilling landscape tour, with the wind in your face and heart in your mouth. You know what, an adrenalin rush may just be what your body needs.
Just picture yourself on a roller coaster through a tropical forest. Well, it is all that, and more, and it is only found in Mystic Mountain Jamaica.
